I’ve been playing this song live in some way or another since 2012. It was always an instrumental until I added the sample that you hear in the beginning and in some form or another throughout the song. After adding that, I was inspired to write something like a meditation to be spoken over top of this epic piece. For some reason the song evoked the idea of meditating in a crowded place. Read more »
Here it is! The first official single from Simplicity! This title track while it wasn’t the first song I wrote that is on the album, it was the first song that I wrote for the album. There were a couple of tracks that I had written earlier that ended up on this album as well, but this song was the first song I wrote specifically with this album concept in mind, and it set the stage for everything that was to come. Because of this, this song is very near to my heart, and it only makes sense that the first single from Simplicity is “Simplicity”. Enjoy! Read more »
This is the first track from my debut album, Simplicity. This album has been in the works for almost a year now and it’s finally completed! As you’ve already seen from the video I released earlier today, the album will be out November 17, right here on this website. More details are to come, but for now, enjoy this first track. It sets the stage for an album that is a metaphysical journey towards inner peace, Truth, and enlightenment all based around the concept of Simplicity I am talking about in this song. Read more »
This is the first time I’ve ever recorded a cover song. Well, sort of. That doesn’t really count though. Not really even sure what the hell that was. I was very new to making music at that time…
Anyway, this is my first official cover song. I made it for someone very special. Someone who came into my world and changed everything for the better and then exited as quickly as she entered. I am forever changed because of the time I shared with her. Read more »
Have you ever really thought about what it means to be “high on life?” Well, if not, you will be after listening to this song. It’s a psychedelic trip that focuses on the greatest, most potent drug in the universe. We’ve all taken it. You’re on it right now, and every second that you’re awake. And everything you do revolves around it. Consciousness is THE drug. The one we are all addicts for. The one we would cease to exist without. I could say more, but just listen to the song and you’ll understand. I hope listening to this epic, 9.5 minute journey improves your mindset today, and I hope you enjoy the hell out of it. I know I enjoyed making it for you. Read more »
This was my first successful collaboration on a song. I have tried with other artists in the past, but it hasn’t worked out, every time because effort was only taken on my side of things. But, this time it was successful–very, very successful. Actually, to say it was successful is a huge understatement. Together, Antonia and I made something that transcends time and space, and is, in fact, the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Nah, I don’t think you feel me. This song is the answer to life, the universe, and everything! Read more »
“All religions teach purity of heart, holiness of life, compassion, love, and good-will; they teach the doing of good deeds and the giving up of selfishness and sin. These things are not dogmas, theologies, and opinions, they are things to be done, to be practiced, to be lived. Men do not differ about these things, for they are acknowledged verities in every sect. What, then, do they differ about? Read more »
Made this in about 2 hours earlier today, one take, one mic, off the top of my head … just me, my marimba, and Ableton Live. I was just channeling pure consciousness as I always do, but this time I did it in a more improvisational way. I did record this on 9/11, but that wasn’t even on my conscious mind during the recording and producing. Like the title suggests, this is just me playing, doing something that I find fun because I believe that an artist needs to play and have fun often in order to grow and expand his or her creativity. As Julia Cameron suggests in her book, The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Guide To Creativity, “Serious Art is born from serious Play.” Read more »
This EP is an Interlude between Progress and Simplicity. It is something to keep my listeners appeased until the album Simplicity is done. Simplicity is a project that has been ever-evolving throughout this year and I’m excited to say it is nearing completion and will be out in
August the near future. I can’t wait to share my debut album with you all.
Interlude is meant to be more than just an interim release, however. It is a journey in and of itself. These three songs together represent three realizations I’ve had in the first half of this year.
“Lift Your Eyes To The Sky” is representative of my decision to only fill my mind with positive, beautiful thoughts.
“The journey inward is all about balance,” an enlightened being told me a couple months ago. Everything one wishes to achieve in one’s existence can only come about as a result of one’s thoughts. I’ve realized this year that my journey inward is the key to me changing this world forever for the better, and that in order to be a well-being I need to have mental and spiritual balance. All off this is expressed in “Balance (The Journey Inward)”.
Confucius sums up “reciprocity” as, “What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.” The teachings of Jesus, Buddha, and nearly every other great spiritual figure and religion highlight this as the (or a) key to living a good life, i.e. “The Golden Rule.” It is so very, very simple, yet so difficult to master. If one can master it, he or she can become a supreme and perfected being, the best version of him or herself, I have come to realize. The song “Reciprocity” is meant to convey this feeling beyond feelings, the reciprocal nature of our existence on this Earth.
This EP is also important because these are the last entirely instrumental songs I will make. “No Limit” marked a turning point for me as an artist. I finally decided to make my own voice a part of my music. Ever since people have been telling me things like “Your songs are meant for your voice,” “Your vocals completely transform your songs,” etc. On top of that, one of my musical heroes once said, “No song is complete without the human voice.” I have been hesitant to use vocals in my songs from the very beginning for a number of reasons, but now I feel it is the right time. Every song that I make from this point forward will feature my voice.
This EP is the end of an era for As I Am and the beginning of my ascension to a place of influence and power in music and the world at large.
